How to Build an Acne Diet

An acne diet sounds like a wonderful idea. Most importantly, who hasn’t heard that eating chocolate gives you zits? Almost all of us have. As a result, it doesn’t really sound that strange that you are what you eat.

But, an acne diet is a very hard thing to establish. Being based on your body’s responses to certain foods makes it very personal. Progress, for the most part, will be trial and error. Monitor your skin closely. Keep a journal. You could keep a photo journal. If and when your acne diminishes stick to the diet plan you are on at the time.

Here are some simple rules to get you started on an acne diet:

1. You need to increase your protein. Some dermatologists believe that protein is associated with clearer skin. This is because protein contains an enzyme that limits the production of oil. If you have oily skin, you know that it is very vulnerable to breakouts.

2. Don’t eat carbs. Its not necessary to cut out all carbohydrates. However you should keep them around 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. Actually, though, junk food is just high in carbs.

3. Drinking green tea is very good for you. If you can, drink real green tea. The best kind of green tea is the kind you brew yourself. You may not like the real stuff so the green tea drinks will work. Green tea limits androgen production. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.

4. Try to limit the amount of salt you intake. Salt most always contains iodine. This being the reason table salt can be called “iodized salt.” Iodine can be one of the biggest inflammatory agents in people with acne.

You must watch your diet and what you put on your face. You should know what ingredients are in your beauty products if you have acne. Use oil free moisturizers and organic skin care products. These are the least likely to irritate your skin. Consider switching over to mineral makeup. If you want to enhance your acne diet and reduce breakouts, you may want to try mineral makeup.
